New Exam Rules at Calcutta University:

The University of Calcutta has revised its undergraduate examination rules for the 2026–27 academic session, introducing changes to attendance marks, internal assessment and grade-point calculation. The revised rules are intended for students enrolled in both three-year and four-year undergraduate programmes.

According to reports, the university issued two official notifications dated October 8, 2026, outlining the updated examination and assessment procedures.

Attendance to Carry Up to 5 Marks

Under the revised system, students can earn up to 5 marks for attendance in each paper per semester. This makes classroom attendance a component of the academic assessment process, alongside other evaluation criteria.

The marks awarded will depend on students’ attendance percentages, as specified in the university’s prescribed criteria. Students should refer to the official notification for the exact attendance slabs and corresponding marks.

Changes to Internal Assessment and Grade Points

Apart from attendance marks, the university has revised certain provisions relating to internal assessment and grade-point calculation. These changes will apply according to the rules specified for the relevant undergraduate programme.

The notifications cover both three-year and four-year degree courses. Students should therefore check the notification applicable to their programme rather than assume that every provision is identical across courses.

What Should Students Do?

Students are advised to read the revised notifications available through the University of Calcutta’s official website and contact their respective colleges if they need clarification about how the changes will affect their semester examinations.

The revised rules are relevant to undergraduate students preparing for the 2026–27 academic session, particularly those who need to understand how attendance and internal assessment may contribute to their semester results.
