The delay in distributing shoes and socks to government school students in Karnataka, even three months after the start of the academic year, has raised concerns among student organisations. The issue was highlighted by the All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) during a district-level student camp in Bengaluru.
AIDSO State Secretary Ajay Kamath questioned the government’s priorities in providing basic facilities to students and urged authorities to ensure that welfare measures reach beneficiaries on time.
Kamath also alleged that the distribution of ‘Ragi Ganji’ (ragi porridge) had been stopped in several major government schools, reportedly citing rising sugar prices. He questioned whether financial constraints should affect nutrition programmes for schoolchildren.
The organisation called for timely implementation of student welfare schemes, stressing that basic facilities and nutritional support are important for children’s education and well-being.
AIDSO also raised concerns about the growing gap between the number of students entering the job market and available employment opportunities, citing figures on annual graduates and job creation.
