A seven-year-old Indian-origin boy in the UK, Jivyan Reddy Dhruva, has achieved Grade 8 in GCSE Higher Mathematics, an examination normally taken by students around the age of 16. He scored 196 out of 240 marks across three papers in the Pearson Edexcel GCSE Higher Mathematics examination.
Jivyan, who lives in West London, appeared for the examination in May and received his result during the recent GCSE Results Day. He reportedly hoped to score Grade 9 but was delighted with his Grade 8 result.
The young student has already begun preparing for the next academic level and plans to study A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics. He has also expressed an interest in eventually developing robots and useful technologies.
Jivyan’s parents said they noticed his exceptional interest in numbers and mathematical concepts from an early age. He attended a mainstream primary school in London until February 2026, after which his parents shifted him to home education, allowing him to learn at a pace suited to his abilities.
His father, Dhruva Katta, an AI engineer, said the family uses games, puzzles, diagrams, practical examples and AI-based learning tools to make education more engaging. Rather than focusing only on solving problems, they encourage Jivyan to understand why methods work and explore alternative ways of reaching solutions.
Despite his advanced academic abilities, Jivyan continues to enjoy activities associated with childhood, including chess, football, tennis and dance. His parents emphasised that they want him to maintain a balanced childhood while continuing to nurture his curiosity and interests.
The remarkable achievement has drawn attention to the potential of personalised and flexible learning, while also highlighting the importance of balancing accelerated academics with a child’s overall development.
