The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, through its Centre for Interdisciplinary and Convergent Technologies (CIDCT), conducted a five-day capacity-building programme aimed at transforming teaching practices in school education. The programme focused on NEP 2020, digital pedagogy and Generative AI, with the objective of helping teachers adopt technology-enabled and skill-oriented approaches in classrooms.
The programme was designed specifically for PGT Chemistry and TGT (Work Experience) teachers. It combined contemporary teaching methods with experiential learning and emerging technologies, covering areas such as Outcome-Based Education, assessment practices, laboratory learning, Generative AI, computational thinking, Internet of Things (IoT), microcontrollers, 3D printing, Raspberry Pi and project-based learning.
The initiative sought to translate the vision of NEP 2020 into practical classroom strategies, particularly by promoting multidisciplinary and skill-based learning at the secondary and senior-secondary levels. Participants were also exposed to IIT Kharagpur’s Virtual Reality Lab and Nehru Museum of Science and Technology, connecting modern technology with hands-on and immersive learning experiences.
During a special session, IIT Kharagpur Director Prof. Suman Chakraborty highlighted effective classroom practices and spoke about the institute’s broader vision of making IITs “mentors of mentors” for schools, colleges and other educational and local ecosystems.
The programme reflects IIT Kharagpur’s efforts to extend its expertise beyond higher education and support teachers in creating engaging, technology-driven and future-ready learning environments.
