The Australian government has stopped new enrolments of international students in the Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) (GDML), citing concerns over misuse of the student visa system and issues related to course completion.
The decision, which marks the first use of Australia’s new powers to cancel a specific course for international students, will take effect from October 5, 2026. From that date, overseas students will no longer be able to enrol in the BSB80120 course through Australian vocational education and training providers.
According to the Australian government, the course was linked to cases of non-genuine students using onshore course transfers to extend their stay, along with high student-visa refusal and course non-completion rates. Existing students who have already started the programme will, however, be allowed to complete their studies.
The course is currently offered by 452 VET providers, with 41,033 active Confirmations of Enrolment (CoEs), including 15,772 students currently studying the programme. The government said the move is aimed at strengthening the integrity and quality of Australia’s international education and student visa systems.
