All government, government-aided and recognised private schools in Delhi will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026, as the national capital prepares to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit. The Directorate of Education has also announced a holiday for offices under its jurisdiction.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 11 to 13. The high-level international gathering is expected to bring together leaders from around 30 BRICS member and partner countries, along with representatives of international organisations and the business community.
The school holiday has been announced amid extensive security, traffic and logistical preparations for the summit. The Directorate of Education issued the relevant circular on September 5, stating that schools and offices under its jurisdiction would observe a holiday on September 11. The order covers government schools as well as government-aided and unaided recognised private schools.
Authorities are also preparing for increased movement of foreign delegations and VVIP motorcades. Delhi Traffic Police has planned traffic diversions at 22 points covering more than 35 roads, while additional measures, including drone-based monitoring, are being used to identify congestion and manage traffic during the summit preparations.
The Central and Delhi governments have separately announced a holiday for government offices on September 11, with the weekend following on September 12 and 13. The closures are intended to reduce traffic pressure and minimise inconvenience to the public during the major international event.
Students and parents in Delhi are advised to take note of the September 11 holiday and follow any further instructions issued by their respective schools.
