World Bank-Funded ASAP Project Gains Momentum in Assam

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu chaired a meeting at the Samagra Shiksha Assam (SSA) office to review the progress of the Assam: School Education and Adolescent Wellbeing Project (ASAP), a World Bank-financed initiative aimed at improving learning outcomes and the overall well-being of children and adolescents across the state.

The ambitious project will cover 400 schools across Assam, with an investment of ₹4 crore per school. The initiative is being implemented in two phases. Phase I, covering 202 schools, is currently underway, while Phase II will extend the project to another 198 schools.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress achieved under Phase I and discussed preparations for the second phase. The discussions focused on ensuring effective implementation, strengthening school education systems and creating better learning environments for students.

A key component of ASAP is also the strengthening of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). Under the project, selected Anganwadi Centres will be upgraded, while Anganwadi workers will receive capacity-building support to improve early childhood education and care.

The project is expected to contribute to better learning outcomes, student well-being and educational support systems, while also strengthening foundational and adolescent education across Assam.
