IIT Kharagpur, University of Leeds Sign MoU to Boost Global Research & Academic Collaboration
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Leeds, UK, to establish a long-term strategic partnership aimed at advancing interdisciplinary research, strengthening academic collaboration, and promoting innovation.
The agreement creates a framework for cooperation in research, education, and innovation, enabling both institutions to explore joint undergraduate, postgraduate, and research-led teaching programmes. The partnership is expected to enhance knowledge exchange and create new opportunities for students, researchers, and faculty members.
As part of the collaboration, IIT Kharagpur and the University of Leeds will establish a jointly funded seed research fund, with each institution contributing up to USD 50,000. The fund will support pilot research projects, encourage innovative ideas, and help researchers prepare proposals for larger national and international funding opportunities.
The University of Leeds has already allocated and utilised its share of the funding for the initial phase of collaborative activities, while IIT Kharagpur has committed its contribution for the current year.Officials from both institutions said the partnership will leverage the strengths of two globally recognised universities to address key societal, technological, and economic challenges through collaborative research, education, and international engagement.
