CTET 2026: CBSE Revises Exam Schedule

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the second session of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026. The examination, which was earlier scheduled for September 6, will now be conducted on December 12 and 13, 2026. The revised schedule was announced through a public notice issued by CBSE on September 14.

The CTET is conducted for candidates aspiring to become teachers in schools across India. Paper I is meant for candidates seeking eligibility to teach Classes 1 to 5, while Paper II is for those who wish to teach Classes 6 to 8. Candidates appearing for both levels will have to take both papers separately.

CTET 2026 Exam Pattern

Both Paper I and Paper II will consist of 150 multiple-choice questions carrying 150 marks. The duration of each paper will be 2 hours and 30 minutes. The examination will be conducted in offline, pen-and-paper mode.

CBSE had earlier reopened the CTET application window from August 25 to September 1, 2026, giving eligible candidates who missed the earlier registration opportunity another chance to apply. Candidates who had already submitted their applications successfully do not need to register again.

The city intimation slip is expected to be released around 15 days before the examination, while admit cards will be available approximately two days before the exam. Candidates should regularly check the official CTET website for updates regarding examination centres, admit cards and other instructions.

Candidates who qualify CTET can use the eligibility certificate while applying for teaching positions in institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas and private CBSE-affiliated schools. However, qualifying CTET alone does not guarantee appointment.
