In a major step towards improving access to education, Samagra Assam has launched the Transport/Escort Facility for Students in Tea Garden Areas from June 10, 2026. The initiative aims to ensure that children from deprived and marginalized communities do not miss school due to transportation challenges.
The scheme will benefit 9,714 students studying in Classes I to X across 198 schools in 11 districts of the state. It will remain in operation from June 10, 2026, to March 31, 2027, excluding July 2026.
Under the programme, the government will provide financial assistance of ₹5,400 per student for the academic year to facilitate safe and free transportation or escort services. The arrangements will be managed locally through School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management and Development Committees (SMDCs).
Officials said the initiative is expected to improve regular school attendance and reduce dropout rates among children living in tea garden areas by addressing one of the key barriers to education.
