The Bihar government has announced a significant increase in the monthly stipend for postgraduate medical and dental students studying in government institutions across the state. The revised rates will be effective retrospectively from January 1, 2026.
Under the new structure, first-year PG students will receive ₹92,800 per month, up from ₹82,000. The stipend for second-year students has been increased to ₹1,02,000 from ₹90,200, while third-year students will now receive ₹1,12,200, compared with the earlier ₹99,220.
The government said the increase is aimed at providing better financial support to PG students, who contribute to patient care and hospital services under the supervision of senior doctors. The move is also intended to encourage the development of skilled specialist medical professionals and strengthen medical education and healthcare services in Bihar.
Students will be eligible for stipend payments for a maximum of 12 months in each academic year, while unauthorised absence may result in a proportionate deduction from the monthly stipend.
