The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced a fresh examination for candidates who appeared for the English, Commerce and Sociology papers of the UGC-NET June 2026 examination. The retest follows complaints regarding multiple errors in the question papers.
Why has NTA ordered a retest?
The UGC-NET June 2026 examination was conducted between June 22 and June 30 across 87 subjects. Following complaints from candidates, NTA constituted a committee to examine the issues reported in the English, Commerce and Sociology papers.
The committee identified several factual, typographical and translation errors, including mistakes in the names of scholars, book titles, question wording, grammar, punctuation and terminology. It also found that a significant number of questions had been repeated from previous examinations.
The committee concluded that the extent of the errors meant they could not simply be addressed by removing individual questions during the answer-key challenge process. As a result, NTA decided to conduct the three papers again to ensure a fair and error-free examination.
