The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, in collaboration with the SBI Foundation, has launched Phase 2 of the Para-Athlete Sports Scholarship Programme, reaffirming its commitment to supporting India’s talented para-athletes. The initiative aims to provide financial assistance, scientific performance evaluation, and professional guidance to promising athletes as they prepare for national and international competitions, including future Paralympic events.
The online application process for the scholarship has already begun, and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official scholarship portal. The last date to apply is August 9, 2026.
Under the second phase of the programme, 80 para-athletes will be selected from eight Paralympic disciplines, with equal representation for both men and women. A total of 40 male and 40 female athletes will receive scholarships to support their training and competitive careers.
The scholarship covers athletes participating in archery, athletics, badminton, judo, powerlifting, shooting, swimming, and taekwondo. These disciplines have consistently produced outstanding Indian para-athletes, and the programme aims to strengthen the country’s performance in international sporting events.
A key highlight of the initiative is the integration of sports science and technology into athlete development. Selected participants will undergo scientific performance assessments at Acrophase, IIT Madras’ advanced human performance research centre. Experts will evaluate athletes’ physical capabilities, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and provide personalised recommendations to optimise their performance.
The programme is designed not only to offer financial support but also to help athletes enhance their fitness, endurance, recovery, and overall competitive readiness through evidence-based sports science. This holistic approach is expected to improve their chances of excelling at major national and international championships.
