New CBSE Rule for Class 10

New CBSE Rule for Class 10

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that students from the 2027–28 academic session must pass the school-based third language (R3) assessment to receive their Class 10 pass certificate.

Although the third language will not be included in the Class 10 Board Examination, successfully clearing the internal school assessment has been made compulsory. Students who fail the assessment will have to appear for a reassessment conducted by their respective schools before the Board declares the final Class 10 results.

CBSE has also clarified that students who do not pass the R3 assessment in Class 9 will not be detained. They will be promoted to Class 10 as per the existing promotion policy. However, they must clear the pending Class 9 third language assessment while studying in Class 10. Failure to do so will prevent them from receiving their Class 10 pass certificate until the requirement is fulfilled.

The Board said this move is aimed at implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes multilingual learning and encourages students to develop proficiency in multiple languages through continuous school-based evaluation rather than Board examinations.
