The Central Government has clarified that students currently studying in Classes 7, 8, and 9 will be allowed to continue with their existing three-language combination, ensuring that no immediate changes will be imposed under the revised language policy.
The clarification comes amid discussions surrounding the implementation of the three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Officials stated that the revised policy will not disrupt the education of students already enrolled in middle and secondary school.
According to the government, schools will not be required to compel these students to change their language choices midway through their academic journey. Instead, the revised language framework will be introduced gradually for future batches, allowing states and educational institutions sufficient time to adapt.
The move is aimed at ensuring a smooth transition to the new policy while minimizing academic disruption for students. It also provides clarity to schools, parents, and state education departments regarding the implementation of the three-language formula.
Education experts believe the decision will help maintain continuity in learning and reduce confusion among students while the broader language policy is rolled out across the country.
