Uttarakhand Becomes India’s 6th Fully Literate State with Over 98% Literacy Rate! 🇮🇳
In a landmark achievement for the education sector, Uttarakhand has officially become the sixth fully literate state in India, recording an impressive literacy rate of over 98%. The milestone has been achieved under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the ULLAS (Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society) programme.
The state earned the prestigious status after successfully meeting the adult literacy benchmarks set by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education. Following the achievement, Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Gurmeet Singh approved the proposal declaring Uttarakhand a fully literate state.
Before Uttarakhand, Mizoram, Goa, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim had already attained full literacy status.
Welcoming the achievement, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami congratulated the people of the state and described it as a historic milestone made possible through collective public participation and the government’s sustained efforts to improve education. He also reaffirmed the state’s commitment to expanding digital literacy, financial literacy, continuing education, and life skills, ensuring that every citizen has access to lifelong learning opportunities.
The achievement marks another significant step toward India’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, highlighting the transformative power of education in building an informed, skilled, and empowered society.
