Sangita Srivastava has taken charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Allahabad University for a second consecutive term, becoming the first person in the university’s history to be reappointed to the position. Her new term will be for five years or until she reaches the age of 70, whichever comes earlier. The Indian Express
Srivastava first assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor on November 30, 2020, becoming the first woman to head Allahabad University. Her first five-year tenure was scheduled to end in November 2025, but it was extended until the appointment process for her successor was completed. The Indian Express
Her reappointment was approved by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, in her capacity as Visitor of the university. The appointment order reached the university on September 23, which also coincided with Allahabad University’s foundation day. The Indian Express
During her first term, Allahabad University received an A+ grade from NAAC and introduced a four-year undergraduate programme in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The university also reported the recruitment of around 400 teachers, promotions of more than 280 teachers, and recruitment of 636 non-teaching employees. The Indian Express
Following the announcement, faculty members, employees and students welcomed Srivastava’s reappointment. She said she would continue working to develop the university as a centre of excellence in education.
