More than 16,800 engineering seats remained vacant in Karnataka after the completion of the COMEDK UGET 2026 Round 4 counselling, highlighting changing preferences among students seeking admission to engineering programmes. According to the latest seat-matrix data, 16,855 seats were still unfilled after the fourth round.
Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) recorded the highest number of vacant seats, with around 4,411 seats remaining unfilled. It was followed by Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with 2,566 vacant seats and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML) with 1,527 vacancies. Mechanical Engineering accounted for 1,245 vacant seats, while Civil Engineering had 969.
The figures indicate that even traditionally popular branches such as computer science and emerging technology programmes are witnessing a significant gap between available seats and student enrolment. The trend comes amid changing preferences among students and growing competition from other academic and professional pathways.
COMEDK has published the engineering vacant-seat data after Round 4 decision-making on its official counselling portal. The consortium conducted four rounds of counselling for engineering admissions, with the final vacancy data providing an overview of seats that remained unfilled after the counselling process.
