The Assam Government has announced major progress in improving school infrastructure across the state. Out of 44,243 government schools, only 676 schools (1.53%) remain without electricity, while 643 schools are already powered by solar energy. The government has allocated ₹4 crore to provide electricity connections to all remaining schools during the current financial year.
The state has also achieved 100% coverage of girls’ toilets in government schools. Only 283 schools (0.64%) are yet to have boys’ toilets, with construction work already planned for this year.
On the digital front, 10,033 out of 10,965 Assam Government upper primary and secondary schools (91.5%) now have digital learning facilities such as ICT labs, smart classrooms, or tele-education. Another 328 schools will receive ICT laboratories this year, and the government aims to achieve 100% digital infrastructure coverage by the next financial year.
