NEET UG Counselling 2026 Begins Today

NEET UG Counselling 2026 Begins Today

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially commenced the NEET UG Counselling 2026 registration process from August 5, opening the gateway for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other undergraduate medical courses under the 15% All India Quota (AIQ). Eligible candidates who have qualified the NEET UG 2026 examination can now register through the official MCC counselling portal to participate in the admission process.

The counselling conducted by MCC covers admissions to AIIMS, JIPMER, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, ESIC institutions, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), and other participating medical colleges across the country. Meanwhile, candidates seeking admission under the 85% State Quota will have to register separately on the respective counselling portals of their state governments, as the state counselling process is conducted independently of MCC.

According to the official counselling schedule, Round 1 registration has started on August 5, while the last date for registration is August 9. Candidates will be able to complete choice filling and locking, following which the seat allotment process will begin. The Round 1 seat allotment result is scheduled to be announced on August 13, and selected candidates will have to report to their allotted colleges between August 14 and August 18.

One of the major highlights of NEET UG Counselling 2026 is the introduction of several technology-driven reforms aimed at making the admission process smoother and reducing the need for repeated visits to colleges.

The biggest change this year is the one-time physical reporting system. Candidates who choose the ‘Freeze’ option after seat allotment will report directly to their allotted institute to complete the admission process. However, candidates opting for the ‘Float’ option can continue participating in subsequent counselling rounds while completing document verification online. They will be required to report physically only after the third round if they decide to retain their allotted seat.

The new system is expected to make counselling more convenient, reduce travel expenses, and simplify the admission process for thousands of medical aspirants across the country.

Candidates are advised to keep all necessary documents, including their NEET UG 2026 scorecard, admit card, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, identity proof, category certificate (if applicable), domicile certificate, passport-size photographs, and other required documents, ready before beginning the registration process.

The MCC has also urged candidates to rely only on official websites for counselling-related updates and avoid misinformation circulating on unofficial platforms or social media. Students should regularly check the official counselling portal for registration, choice filling, seat allotment, reporting schedules, and further announcements.

With the counselling process now underway, thousands of NEET-qualified candidates across the country will compete for seats in some of India’s most prestigious medical institutions, marking the beginning of their journey towards a career in medicine.
