Asian Universities Lead THE Sustainability Rankings 2026

Asia Dominates THE Sustainability Rankings 2026; India Second Most Represented Globally

Asia has emerged as the dominant region in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Rankings 2026, accounting for more than half of all universities featured in the list. Out of 1,646 universities ranked across 116 countries and territories, 962 institutions are from Asia.

India has also strengthened its global presence, becoming the second most represented country in the rankings with 110 universities featured in the overall table. It stands behind the Philippines, which leads with 160 universities in the 2026 rankings.

The THE Sustainability Rankings evaluate universities across 18 categories, including one overall ranking and 17 tables aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ranking focuses on institutions’ performance in addressing global sustainability challenges.

In the latest edition, the University of Manchester retained the top global position, followed by Griffith University and Western Sydney University.

The strong representation of Asian universities highlights the region’s growing focus on sustainability-driven research and higher education development.
