New IIM Jammu Campus Opens in Leh with 60 BBA Seats

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu is set to expand its academic presence to Ladakh with the establishment of a satellite campus in Leh. The initiative is aimed at bringing management and professional education closer to students in the Union Territory and reducing the need for them to relocate outside Ladakh for higher studies.

The Ladakh Administration and IIM Jammu signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 25, 2026, for establishing the satellite campus. The agreement was signed in the presence of Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and senior officials from both sides

Four-Year BBA (Honours) Programme

The new Leh campus will initially offer a four-year BBA (Honours) programme, with an intake of 60 students. According to officials, the programme is scheduled to commence in October 2026.

The programme has already generated significant interest among prospective students. Officials said that around 600 candidates have expressed interest for the 60 available seats, indicating strong demand for management education opportunities within the region.

Campus Infrastructure Developed in Two Months

The satellite campus has also been developed in a relatively short period. Officials said the required infrastructure was established within two months of the initiative being taken up jointly by the Ladakh Administration and IIM Jammu.

The establishment of the campus is expected to make professional and management education more accessible to students in Ladakh. Until now, students seeking such programmes have often had to move outside the Union Territory, resulting in additional expenses related to travel, accommodation, food, books and other living costs.

Focus on Higher Education and Career Opportunities

Speaking about the initiative, Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena said the satellite campus would create new opportunities for the youth of Ladakh in areas including knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurship and professional development. He also said that bringing quality management education closer to students could help reduce the financial and logistical barriers associated with studying outside the Union Territory.

The MoU signing was attended by Ladakh Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, IIM Jammu Board of Governors Chairman Milind Kamble, IIM Jammu Director B S Sahay, Secretary Higher Education Bhanu Prabha, along with senior officials from the UT Administration and IIM Jammu

The Leh satellite campus marks a new development in higher education infrastructure in Ladakh, with its first BBA (Honours) batch expected to begin studies in October 2026.
